Capture unusual keys (e.g., volume)
My (8 month old) son gets very excited when this game comes up on the laptop. He does have a tendency to touch the "volume mute" key, though, and then he gets worried.
It would be great if the keyboard hook could be extended to include those unusual keys; they don't have to do anything, but they should at least be ignored.

Better keyboard lockdown
This isn't quite the same as the comment where the baby was able to exit the application. Instead my son seemed to be able to launch other applications by leaning on and smashing the keyboard of my Dell laptop. Other applications included 6 instances of Baby Smash, two OneNote notes, a OneNote screen capture session, my Vista sidebar (which I normally keep turned off. He not only turned it on, but actually added a gadget to it!) and more.

Disabling the <space> bar
Introduced the program to my 20-month-old son today and he loved it. I noticed, however, that when pressing most keys, the palm of his hand pressed the space bar, resulting in few letters shown compared to the number of shapes.
I suggest adding an option for ignoring the space bar.

More appealing voice for speach. I know they exist...
Macs have some very nice ones, but I imagine they might not be freely available. Storing audio for everything might make the download larger, but would also be an option

Letters-only or Shapes-only Modes
I suggest to allow parents to choose, in addition to the current mixes letter and shapes mode, a letters-only or a shapes-only mode. A "hot" key-combination to toggle between the modes would also be nice to have.
In the letters-only mode, all non-letter keys could be disabled, or could display a random letter.

Random-letter mode
Young "smashing" babies do not pick keys, so a mode where all letters would be presented to them, regardless of whether they pressed all keys, would be more educational.
This could be combined with the separate letters-only mode, where each non-letter key press would also display a random letter.

add a windowed developer mode
when developing BabySmash features, it is difficult to get back to Visual Studio to check breakpoints etc. It would be nice if there was a simple flag that meant that BabySmash ran in a standard window, and only listened to keys if that window had focus.

Ah, there is, in the source, look for the line that says “#if true…” and change it to false.

turn off spinning animation.
The delay between key press and object display is too slow to highlight a cause and effect situation. Please add a toggle to preferences to show/hide annimation effect.

random sounds
Please add a new "beeps and chirps" sound option. The laughter gets old quickly and the speech mode is erie. How about short random beeps, chirps, whistles, boinks, bongs, ect?

detect when baby is bashing the keyboard
It would be great if the app could run in the background, detect weird chording and then launch - then baby would launch the programme herself

Repeatedly "smashing" same key triggers other software
Some software gets activated when hitting the same key repeatedly, ie. StickyKeys (hit the shift-key 5 times) or Google Desktop search (hit Ctrl twice). Would be nice if these functions somehow got disabled while running Babysmash

make the mousehweel/mouseup sounds optinoal
some toddlers are afraid of the laughter coming out of the PC
i managed to disable most of them using the "no sound option", however the mousewheel up/down, and sometimes very randomly the mousedown still triggers the laughter.
i could easily fix them by inserting an "if (Settings.Default.Sounds == "Laughter")", but since the application is deployed using clickonce i cannot easily deploy this to my friends computer without having me support this branch forever :)
do you want me to submit a patch for this?

Add app-exit button to the Options screen
For whatever reason Alt-F4 no longer works to exit the application (I think it broke after we upgraded to Windows 7 Beta, but not positive.)
I'd love to see that bug fixed, but I'm sure there are permutations of it, and an app-exit button on the Options screen would be better than Ctrl+Alt+Delete->Log Out.

problem: multiple monitor mouse drawing
When run on my multiple monitor Win XP desktop, if I'm drawing with the mouse on one monitor, the hand disappears when moving to the other monitor. Using Win XP SP 3, extend desktop for multiple monitors.
