KeySmash API
You have gone to great lengths to grab every possible input via keyboard and mouse - why not package that up as a nice API that folks can use to build other apps like Teen-Smash, Geri-Smash, Spouse-Smash - but seriously - it would allow people to build nice kiosk style apps and make sure no mischief is going on.
9 votesThat’s totally the idea. Note the other feedback item on “Scripting Functionality.” It’d be cool to be able to create other applications. I’d love to turn BabySmash into a “Speak N’ Spell” where folks could write scripts to do the logic.

Incorporate DOS Balloons ideas...
When I was raising my first 2 children (16 and 14) years ago, I used a DOS program which displayed different colored balloons based on the keys pressed (i.e. G=Green, P=Purple, etc.). Non-mapped keys generated random colored balloons. There were several cool features that I would like to see in BabySmash (which my third child - 15mos - is now using). (1) Add an all-balloons feature. Kids love them!, (2) for variety, add the balloons/letters/numbers/shapes/images in random sizes when the key is pressed (the DOS program used 3 random sizes, I believe) , (3) fire the new images/sounds on keydown…

Great ideas, all!

solicit feedback from early childhood teachers
developers shouldn't be the only people driving feaures in babysmash. I think you should put out a call for early childhood pro's to give feedback on the app so we can make the learning experience even better for the babies!!

Great idea! I’m thinking that the best way to solve the sound idea is to let parents record their own, what do you think?

Keep track of Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Insert settings.
When my son finishes playing, I occasionally find myself typing in caps, or find the number pad keys not behaving as I expected. I haven't really confirmed a problem with the Insert key, but I thought I'd mention it just in case. All these keys are basically "settings", so it would be nice if you could protect them from Baby Smash.

BabySmash Autostart
I need BabySmash to start automatically when my computer goes idle. My 1 year old attacks my keyboard when I take a bathroom break ect. If it could start on it's own while I'm away it would save my computer. She has erased documents and all sorts of things by her smashing!

fix problem where key presses pass through to OS
This happens with Win7 beta. My daughter will press keys and somehow babysmash is still the foreground app, but her key presses are affecting the background app

language
All the properties like shape names, colors, etc. could be recorded by the user.
So, language problem would be solved.
And program should be more personel.6 votes -

Create Web Edition Powered by Silverlight
Look at creating a silverlight version. Initial thoughts
1. Run full screen mode. Use mouse clicks to display shapes & words?
2. Cross OS Support (Win/Mac/Linux)
3. Use ink support with a tablet instead of mouse?
4. Substitute the text to speech with wma/mp3 files.
5. Ability to store wma, mp3 files in isolated storage
6. Use visual state manager to create new community templates.
7. Upload templates to baby smash site6 votesAdminshanselman (Admin, babysmash) responded
Good ideas, but don’t you think that since Silverlight can’t prevent bad keypresses that a toddler could really do some damage?

Make text configureable
Scott,
I am german and so my little one is:) I installed a german voice for text to speach (XP) and the letters as well as the numbers are well spoken. But the shapes arent. I found the configuration file and it would be nice if i could change the text for the shapes.
PS: She loves it anyway!5 votes -
Supress the kb assist dialog if shift is pressed to much
If you press shift multiple times , Windows will offer to enable sticky keys... if possible supress this in the application

This is REALLY hard as “Sticky Keys” is built deep into windows…
