A more structured version
Babies are constantly trying to make sense of the word that they live in. If the letters appeared from left to right on the screen in the sequence that they are typed (a bit like typing in a word document but without the associated risk to the computer) children will be able to see and figure out that their actions have a direct effect on the computer. This may also reduce the need for smashing as another visitor noted.

More and bigger cursors
It would be cool to have a greater selection of cursors and some bigger ones with trails perhaps? My 2 year old likes using the mouse and watching the cursor... it would be cool if u could change it to some different things... maybe a little car, or a bird, or a ribbon. and maybe some rollover effects on shapes or something... anything to add to the mouse moving experience.... You could control a torch with the mouse to light up different areas, or a magnifying glass. What do you think?

great for special needs
your app is fantastic i use it to teach special needs children. it would be fantastic if the voice would use phonic sounds as schools use phonics to teach reading and pronunciation. Also maybe adding picture with sound e.g car or use instructions e.g enter key I am hungry with a picture etc. it will also help baby to communicate

Windows 7 Support ... child can easily get back to desktop
Hi Scott
Thanks so much for Baby Smash! Our daughter loved it when she was little and the computer was running Windows XP. Now though the son is using it and the computer now has Windows 7. It is very easy for him to get out of the app and go back to the Desktop. I'm not exactly sure how to do it, but I think its some combination of the Windows key, Ctrl-Escape, or the like, and he's out! Is this different behavior than Windows XP? Does there need to be some type of update for Windows 7 to…1 vote -

Lock Win+L
Win+L is not locked, my 8 month found that out in two minutes, then starting to lock my account with to many invalid password attempts.

Make it possible to scroll web pages while baby is smashing
I always use Baby smash with a transparent background so I can read stuff on the internet while our toddler keeps smashing away.
It's slightly annoying that to scroll a webpage down for more content I need to exit Baby smash completely and then restart it again which takes at least 10 seconds. It would be great to have the option to leave the mouse untouched or optionally to have a way of temporarily pausing the app without fully exiting it.

Reduce the startup time
On my XP laptop this is the slowest starting application by miles (years) and my 9 month old boy does not yet have any patience. What does the application do that takes it so long to get going?
Other than that a great idea and a great tool

If windows exposes an API, (optionally) disable the power button action in the power management scheme for laptops.
I did this manually, but before I did my laptop took more than one snooze due to baby hands. I'm guessing you may have thought of this - my thought was since this probably prompts a bunch of nagging questions about permissions (assuming it's possible via API) that it could maybe be a one time install option if a runtime (only while BabySmash is running) option isn't practical.
Also, great app, my (11 m/o) son loves it. Only downside: Laptop seen as toy :)

Allow shapes to be non-random
It would be good to have an option where specific shapes are mapped to specific keys, rather than random.
Our 18mo loves BabySmash and especially loves the stars (she asks to play it by saying "Dar!"), and she can pick out specific keys. So if I press Ctrl and get a star, she then presses Ctrl and is disappointed if she gets a different shape. It would be good to have a mode where the shapes were predictable.3 votes
